Waleed Aly, an Australian news presenter, has hit out on politicians and Muslim leaders who have preached “hate” in the wake of the Paris attacks, saying their actions actually help Islamic State rather than defeat them. Bravo. It’s an excellent clip, and a point well made:
ISIS take credit for any act of terrorism on western soil so that they seem bigger than they actually are, but these are often DIY terrorists who have recruited themselves. ISIS want all of us to become hostile, to split the world into two camps. They want to start world war three, and for societies to turn on each other.
We as a society need to be very mindful of maintaining and protecting our social cohesion, our sense of harmony, and standing together shoulder to shoulder with all our allies, and that includes non-extremist Muslims.
ISIS want countries like ours to reject our Muslims and vilify them – to make them our enemy, and to make them feel like our enemy, which means they will have nowhere to turn but ISIS – this was exactly their strategy in Iraq, and now they want it to go global. That is both dumbfounding in its stupidity, and blood curdling in its barbarity.
…both dumbfounding in its stupidity, and blood curdling in its barbarity.
We’re all angry, sickened, and crushed by the recent attacks, but don’t be manipulated. We all need to come together, because it’s exactly what ISIS DON’T want. If you’re preaching hate, then you’re just helping ISIS, and “I’m pretty sure none of us want to help these Bastards”
I’m pretty sure none of us want to help these Bastards
